In his victory speech over the weekend, Brazil’s new President-Elect, Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva, vowed to guard the Amazon rainforest.
“Brazil is able to resume its main position within the combat towards the local weather disaster, defending all our biomes, particularly the Amazon rainforest,” he stated.
The outgoing President Bolosonaro Jair Bolsonaro was extensively criticized by environmentalists for publicly promoting the development of the rainforest. Beneath his watch, deforestation soared to a 15-year-high as Bolsonaro.
